    RESOURCE CENTRE OFFICER
     

    Responsibilities:

    • Assist in formulation of the resource centre policies, guidelines and procedures.
    • Source and acquire relevant books and materials relating to heritage in consultation with the Resource Centre Committee.
    • Maintain catalogue system, classify and label/tag books, periodicals, publications, magazines, articles, building plans and audio visual materials etc.
    • Manage and maintain internal database or news information ie. scan and assign classification to newspapers articles, project reports, audio visual aids, in-house publications and materials etc.
    • Maintain inventories of borrowed and returned reference materials by staff members.
    • Respond to daily on-site enquiries, letters, emails for information.
    • Ensure that the resource centre is accessible including assisting and train users to effectively search catalogue and provide research service.
    • Upkeep of resource centre tidiness and functioning of computers and peripherals and security equipment.
    • Keep abreast with new developments in library system, latest publications, periodicals etc.
    • Develop network with other libraries, conservation resource centres and archive databases worldwide.
    • Promote the use of resource centre and publications through public talks, events, activities, advertising media etc.
    • Provide regular statistical reports on the functioning and use of the resource centre.
    • Manage and maintain archive materials, ie Kelly map, old photos/postcards, old building plans etc. and “Visions of Penang” website.
    • Conduct research and manage matters relating to publication works.
    • Provide support across departments as required.
    • Undertake any other job tasks as directed by supervisors as and when required.

    Requirements:

    • Minimum Diploma in Library, Information Management or equivalent.
    • Minimum 2 years of work experience in library or resource centre development and management.
    • Good knowledge of international cataloging and classification standards.
    • Required language(s) spoken & written: English, Bahasa Malaysia. Knowledge in Mandarin and Chinese dialects will be an added advantage.
    • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Commitment towards quality service and the aim of the resource centre.

    PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER

    Responsibilities:

    • Respond promptly to enquiries and requests for information from media, public, government bodies, NGOs, private companies etc.
    • Cultivate and sustain good media relations to ensure maximum media coverage.
    • Copywrite and ensure the relevance and accuracy of content of various communication tools eg. press releases, speeches, media pitches, corporate brochures, videos, presentations, annual report etc.
    • Organize and prepare press kits, interviews, conference, events, trips, luncheons etc.
    • Build rapport with the media and community to help project a correct and positive corporate image.
    • Act as an ambassador to reinforce the corporate image amongst local and international dignitaries, delegation, visitors, media, and general community.
    • Maintain, design, update and enhance the content and appearance of the corporate website and social media sites regularly with quality and informative news.
    • Provide input and come up with suitable corporate souvenirs as part of building good public relations with the public, which includes sourcing, liaising with vendors and promoting its sales.
    • Organize and supervise the staff in exhibition area to ensure visitors are well-informed of organization mission, activities and events.
    • Undertake any other job tasks directed by supervisors as and when required.

    Requirements:

    • Candidate must possess at least a Professional Certificate, Advanced/Higher/Graduate Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree, Post Graduate Diploma, Professional Degree, in Public Relations, Mass Communications, Marketing, Linguistics/Languages, Hospitality/Tourism/Hotel Management or equivalent.
    • Minimum 2 years of experience in public relations or corporate communications.
    • Experience in branding, marketing and event management will be an added advantage.
    • Possess a positive personality and enjoys working with people.
    • Able to write and converse in English, Mandarin and Bahasa Malaysia. Conversant in local Chinese dialects will be an added advantage.

    Responsibilities:

    • Greet and welcome visitors, tourists, business associates, local and overseas delegations etc.
    • Handle visitors queries, information, direction, complaints, feedback etc.

    EDUCATION & OUTREACH MANAGER

    Responsibilities:

    To promote educational awareness and understanding of the George Town World Heritage Site through the following initiatives:

    • Plan the calendar, budget proposals and annual reports for educational programs for the year.
    • Initiate, conceptualise, plan, publicise and manage heritage education programs for tertiary, secondary and primary schools.
    • Initiate, conceptualise, plan, publicise and manage heritage education programs for the stakeholders & general public such as workshops, seminars, lectures, conferences etc.
    • Supervise co-ordinators in the implementation of all educational and outreach programs.
    • Produce supporting educational materials such as booklets, videos, brochures etc.
    • Build networks and develop partnership programs with institutions, community organisations, private and public sectors, and non-government organisations.
    • Source for funding opportunities and apply for grants to support educational and outreach programs.
    • Support the George Town Festival and other events with educational aspect of programming.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor and / Master Degree in Education, History, Social Sciences or Mass Communications.
    • Mininum 5 years of work experience in educational programming, management or similar capacity.
    • Knowledge and passion for historical, scientific and social relevance for the past, present and future generations.
    • Ability to conceptualise, develop and deliver programmes designed to enhance heritage awareness and education.
    • Ability to work with public, institutions, NGO’s, funding agencies and other relevant organizations.
    • Possess strong leadership qualities, result-oriented, meticulous and organised.

    PROGRAMME ASSISTANT

    Summary of responsibilities:

    The Programme Assistant provides support to the Education team that plays a central role in ensuring that our work is understand by others and to increase understanding and appreciation of heritage in George Town.

    Primary tasks:

    Project implementation

    • Support all logistical requirements of Education programme activities.
    • Assist in the setting up of workshop or talk requirements.
    • Maintaining inventory of materials used in programme activities and acquiring materials as required.
    • Ensure the delivery of high quality programme events and activities in a timely fashion and in keeping with expected deadlines.
    • Provide administrative support as and when required in the implementation of projects.
    • Assist Education team members in the dissemination of project information and promotion of events and activities as required.

    Customer/Client Service

    • Assist with walk-in visitor requests and provide accurate and relevant heritage information to visitors as it relates to Education programming
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of GTWHI activities and general heritage facts in the GTWHS.
    • Respond as required to research requests and refer request as necessary to relevant GTWHI team member.
    • Contribute to the relationship management of all GTWHI external contacts by always maintaining a helpful and friendly professional demeanour, and responding pro-actively to requests and needs.

    Others

    • Provide support across departments as required.
    • Attend and contribute to project discussions and meetings.
    • Undertake other duties as directed by management and supervisors commensurate with the post.

    CONSERVATION ARCHITECT

    Responsibilities:

    • Monitoring of construction, restoration and repair of properties to ensure proper carrying out and completion of construction on restoration and repair works in accordance with building codes and conservation guidelines in the George Town World Heritage Site.
    • Provide advice on conformity to conservation guidelines, appropriate conservation materials and building methods and on satisfactory standards of workmanship.
    • Prepare periodic conservation and monitoring report to state government, Jabatan Warisan Negara and UNESCO as required.
    • Lead and direct a team in monitoring of conservation projects, liaise and work together with local authority in monitoring and supervising all development works in the World Heritage Site.
    • Train junior team members and relevant government staff on material, technology, and construction and repair knowledge in building conservation works.
    • Head the heritage advisory team to provide technical advice and consultation to property owners or those who intend to develop conservation site.
    • Preparation of Heritage Management Plan & Heritage Impact Assessment, Design and Conservation Guidelines and other conservation reports.
    • Provide support across divisions, undertake any other job tasks and attend meetings as directed by supervisors as and when required.

    Requirements:

    • Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree/Post Graduate Diploma/Professional Degree/ Master’s Degree in Architecture or equivalent.
    • Applicants without the necessary paper qualification but have suitable and extensive practical experience in conservation sector in the Asian context will be considered.
    • At least 1 year of working experience in the related field is required for this position.
    • Experience in the preparation of conservation management plan will be an advantage.
    • Well skilled in the art of conservation of buildings in an urban landscape including shophouses, bungalows and public buildings.
    • Working knowledge of traditional building methods and materials used in the Asian context is a pre-requisite.
    • Good command of written and spoken English and Bahasa Malaysia. Knowledge in local dialects is added advantage.
    • Familiar with AutoCad and Microsoft Office.

    ENGINEER

    Responsibilities:

    • Conduct site visit/ field work/ survey and prepare inspection report of George Town World Heritage Sites (GTWHS).
    • Monitoring of construction, renovation, restoration, repair and alteration of properties to ensure in accordance with approved plan and conservation requirements and guidelines in GTWHS.
    • Analyze engineering reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geologic data to projects.
    • Provide technical advice on issues of design, construction, modifications concerning civil and structural engineering works.
    • Able to perform engineering calculations on loads and stresses and advice selection of construction materials.
    • Liaison with all parties involved in the project including local authorities, consultants, houseowners, contractors and suppliers.
    • Conduct investigation on complaints and enquiries on conservation issues.
    • Provide technical and administrative assistance to team members.

    Requirements:

    • Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree, Post Graduate Diploma or Professional Degree in Civil & Structural Engineering.
    • Minimum 1 year of working experience in the related field is required for this position.
    • Knowledge in Microsoft Office & AutoCAD would be an added advantage.
    • Able to write and converse in English, Mandarin and Bahasa Malaysia. Conversant in local Chinese dialects will be an added advantage.
    • Knowledge on project management including planning, organizing and monitoring all aspects of construction work.
    • Good communication and report writing skills.
    • Possess own transport and willing to travel.

    RESEARCH ASSISTANT

    Responsibilities:

    • Conduct day to day site visit/ field work/ survey and prepare inspection report of George Town World Heritage Sites (GTWHS).

    • Manage operation of GIS program, data entry, and outputs including presentation.
    • Assists in the design, development and creation of databases, maps and other related projects.
    • Provide technical and administrative assistance to team members.

    Requirements:

    • Candidate must possess at least a Diploma in Built Environment/ Architecture/ Town Planning/ Building Surveyor or equivalent.
    • Minimum 1 year of work experience in related field is required.
    • Familiar with relevant laws, act, regulations and guidelines on heritage conservation will be an added advantage.
    • Good command of English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and able to converse in Hokkien dialect are pre-requisites.
    • Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office applications, AutoCAD and ArcGIS.
    • Ability to read and interpret construction drawing, plans, and specifications.
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Able to work independently under minimum supervision and work well in a team.
    • Possess own transport.
