    The Penang Institute is the public policy think tank of the state government of Penang. Established in 1997 as the Socio-economic and Environmental Research Institute (SERI), it has now been rebranded to better reflect the aspirations of the state to transform Penang into an international and intelligent city.

    With the tagline, “Making Ideas Work”, the Penang Institute seeks to spur bold thinking in the key areas of economics, socio-politics and sustainable development.

    We are looking for an Analyst – Economic Studies to join our team of researchers working on socio-economic research projects. The person should be available for at least one year on a full-time basis.

    Job descriptions:

    1. To compile, verify and maintain socio-economic database;

    2. To liaise with agencies providing data;

    3. To carry out analysis on research projects;

    4. To participate in company level surveying;

    5. To conduct interview with industry players and stakeholders;

    6. To synthesize current business intelligence or trend data;

    7. To compile reports on specific elements of the research projects; and

    8. To perform tasks required by the Senior Executive Officers, and/or Chief Executive Officer

    Desired Skills and Experiences:

    1. Academic Qualifications: Bachelor degree in Economics, Mathematics and/or other related field;

    2. Strong interest in socio-economic research;

    3. Good analytical skills;

    4. Good spoken and written English;

    5. Good interpersonal and communication skills;

    6. Proactive, willing to learn and dedicated;

    7. Willing to undertake extensive field work; and

    8. Preferably knowledge/expertise in labour market economics.
